Our Aspirations
"He iti kōpara e pioi ana i te tihi o ngā Kahikatea"
Ngāi Tai vitality is about Ngāi Tai realising its aspirations. The following seven Ngāi Tai vitality outcomes aim
to drive transformational change at a collective iwi level and in turn, aim to encourage our whānau and
wider Ngāi Tai collective to realise their potential.
OUTCOME 1 –SECURE NGAI TAI IDENTITY
Ngāi Tai has the cultural capacity and confidence to speak te reo Māori, fulfil roles on our marae, and maintain the history,
traditions and practices of our ancestors.
OUTCOME 2 – INTERGENERATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY
Ngāi Tai enjoy equitable access to the range of resources and benefits for both current and future generations to best
ensure their collective wellbeing.
OUTCOME 3 – COLLECTIVE COHESION
Ngāi Tai are connected with one another and enjoy opportunities to come together, be informed and actively participate
and contribute to the development and advancement of the wider iwi collective.
OUTCOME 4 – ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
Ngāi Tai actively exercise Kaitiakitanga over their natural resources in sustainable ways.
OUTCOME 5 – NGAI TAI SELF-DETERMINATION
Ngāi Tai lead, govern and manage their own development towards a shared collective vision that strategically advances
the spiritual, cultural, social, health, environmental, political and economic vitality of Ngāi Tai.
OUTCOME 6 – ECONOMIC PROSPERITY
Ngāi Tai enjoy a secure iwi economic base that contributes to wider iwi development opportunities that maximise the
use of natural resources while taking responsibility for environmental protection.
OUTCOME 7 – WHĀNAU ORA
Ngāi Tai whānau lead positive, healthy lifestyles and are empowered to determine their own futures in a range of domains,
including culture, health, employment, education, land, housing, and financial security.
